Loan Amortization

Each stacked bar is one actual payment month, through payoff. Principal includes extra; interest uses the opening balance. Axes and tooltips preserve original USD amounts. Captions summarize the first and final payment.

  • Month 1: Payment $943.56; Principal $735.23; Interest $208.33; Remaining balance $49,264.77.
  • Month 60: Payment $943.56; Principal $939.65; Interest $3.92; Remaining balance $0.00.

Model assumptions

This is a fixed-rate, fully amortizing USD loan scenario. The nominal annual interest percentage is divided by 12 for monthly interest. It is not an APR calculation, lender quote, collateral valuation or eligibility assessment. Origination, servicing and prepayment fees, penalties, taxes, variable rates, balloon payments, daily accrual and lender-specific rounding are excluded. Actual contract terms and charges can change the cost and the benefit of paying early.

Choose 1–30 whole years (12–360 monthly payments). Interest accrues on the opening balance, then the scheduled payment plus the extra amount is paid at month end. Extra money reduces principal and shortens the schedule. The final payment is capped at the balance plus that month's interest; payments stop at payoff. No intermediate cent rounding is applied. Zero principal means no payments; zero interest is supported.

Total modeled repayments include only principal and modeled interest. Principal share is principal ÷ total repayments, not loan-to-value: no collateral value is entered. With no debt, this share is undefined. The monthly amount includes extra; the actual final payment can be smaller. A disclosed computation or display-precision limit retains known values and does not invent a payoff schedule.
