Compare illustrative gasoline fuel costs in USD using US miles, US gallons, two MPG values and a fixed whole-year horizon.
Annual gasoline cost is annual US miles divided by US miles per gallon, multiplied by USD per US gallon. Monthly cost is annual cost divided by 12. The two vehicles share entered travel distance and fuel price, which remain constant across the whole-year horizon.
Savings are signed differences in fuel cost only. Equal economy, zero travel or free fuel produces a neutral tie. Maintenance, insurance, taxes, depreciation, electric energy and future prices are excluded. MPG is not energy-equivalent MPGe, and no metric conversion is performed.
