Set your own expense-based savings target and compare it with current reserves and planned monthly deposits.
Target equals the sum of entered monthly expenses multiplied by the selected number of months. Coverage equals current reserve divided by monthly expenses. Funding percentage is uncapped; a reserve above the selected target can exceed 100%. To estimate saving time, the entered deposit is made at each complete month end: the positive gap divided by that deposit, rounded up to a whole month. A target already met takes zero further months; a positive gap with no deposit cannot be reached under these assumptions. Expenses and deposits stay constant. Interest, fees, inflation and future emergencies are excluded. Deposits are your chosen cash amount; they are not inferred from income or an expense percentage. This target does not establish that the reserve is sufficient for your circumstances.
Savings needs depend on individual circumstances. DTI requirements vary by lender, loan product, qualifying-income rules and other underwriting factors; a ratio alone does not establish eligibility.
